How Our Pricing Works

Every Rail Auto Canada quote is built from a few specific inputs: where you're shipping from, where you're shipping to, your vehicle type, and current fuel surcharge rates. Because these variables change, no honest shipper can publish one fixed price for every customer. What we can do is show you realistic ranges for every route we serve — and then give you an exact, all-in quote in under 60 seconds.

$

All-In Pricing

Your quote includes everything: rail transport, insurance, terminal handling, and vehicle inspection. Tax is shown separately. No surprise fees, no add-ons, no fuel surcharges tacked on after. What you see is what you pay.

Insurance Included

Every shipment includes carrier liability insurance up to Canadian Red Book value. You don't need to buy additional coverage. This is included in your quoted price at no extra cost.

Why Prices Change Monthly

Our pricing includes a fuel surcharge that adjusts monthly based on diesel fuel price indices — the same way airline ticket prices move with fuel costs. When fuel goes up, prices go up slightly. When fuel drops, so do our rates. Your price is locked the moment you book.

Vehicle Size Matters

Sedans and compact cars are our standard rate. SUVs, pickup trucks, crossovers, and minivans are classified as larger vehicles and priced slightly higher — they take up more space on the rail car. The correct rate is applied automatically when you enter your vehicle.

Price Ranges by Route

These are real, current price ranges for terminal-to-terminal service based on our active pricelist. They include insurance and our service fee. Tax at the destination province rate is added on top. For your exact price, get a quote — it takes 60 seconds.

Where Rail Beats Truck on Price

Rail Auto Canada is built for long-haul moves. The longer the distance, the better the value compared to truck carriers. On coast-to-coast routes, rail is often the same price or cheaper than an open truck carrier — with significantly better protection for your vehicle.

Toronto ↔ Vancouver

Our #1 corridor. Rail pricing is highly competitive with truck, and your car never touches a highway. No rock chips, no road debris, no weather exposure.

Montreal ↔ Vancouver

Full cross-country. At this distance, rail economics shine. You're getting coast-to-coast transport with insurance included for a price that's hard to beat by truck.

Halifax ↔ Vancouver

The longest route in Canada. This is where rail is the clear winner — fewer carriers even offer this by truck, and the ones that do charge a premium.

Calgary/Edmonton ↔ Toronto/Montreal

Major inter-provincial corridors where rail is price-competitive and dramatically safer than open truck transport.

For shorter moves under 800 km — like Toronto to Ottawa or Calgary to Edmonton — truck carriers are usually faster and cheaper. We're honest about that. Rail is built for distance, and that's where we deliver the best value. If your move is long-haul, get a quote and compare. Most people are surprised at how affordable rail is.
